A ‘Your Money’ drop-in event is to be held in Beverley to offer help and advice to East Riding residents.
The event will be held on Friday, 14 February at Beverley Adult Learning Centre, Burden Road, Beverley, HU17 9LW, from 1pm-3pm.
Residents are encouraged to go along to meet experts from East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the local community who will be providing advice on the cost of living, everyday bills, and general assistance with financial pressures.
The event forms part of the council’s Help for Households campaign, which includes more than 60 schemes on offer to help with the cost of living – from help with pension credit, attendance allowance, childcare, pensions, and travel costs, to cheaper Wi-Fi and free data SIMs.
The council has already helped East Riding residents to claim more than £2.7 million in benefits.
Councillor Nigel Wilkinson, East Riding of Yorkshire council cabinet member for finance and benefits said “Many residents may be eligible for financial assistance or discounted bills, and this is a great opportunity to find out about how to access these resources. I encourage residents to attend this event and utilise the support that the council can provide.”
The support on offer at the event includes
Financial support
The council’s Your Money team can help residents find benefits from the Government for those on low incomes, whether working or not, to help with living costs. This includes disability benefits, support for carers, and help for people over the state pension age. The council has already helped 15,000 households claim what they’re entitled to.
Household bills
Many providers offer cheaper broadband and mobile phone packages, including free data SIMs for people claiming certain benefits. There are also various discounts and exemptions to reduce council tax and water bills. For those paying a mortgage or rent and working on a low income, there may be help through universal credit.
HEY Credit Union
HEY Credit Union is a not-for-profit community bank offering savings, low-interest loans, and budgeting support for anyone in East Yorkshire, Hull, and Lincolnshire. It aims to support its members’ financial wellbeing by providing ethical and affordable services. The Family Benefit Plan, Christmas Loans, and new School Uniform Loans are just a few of its affordable loans, which can help with costs throughout the year and allow our members to save.
Household Support Fund
The Household Support Fund helps vulnerable households with essential costs, such as energy and water bills, food, and other essentials. Residents don’t need to be receiving benefits to qualify, and it won’t affect any benefits. The council’s team can help residents apply and find out what support is available.
Learning and skills
There will be various activities on the day. Staff from the council’s Adult Learning Centre will host free taster sessions for a range of Adult Learning courses. They can also discuss training to help anyone wishing to move into or progress in work.
Beverley Job Centre
Staff from Beverley Job Centre will be on hand to offer support and advice to anyone trying to get into work and those looking to progress. They can also help residents with how to plan and save for later life.
