East Yorkshire coast prepares to

welcome back fishing competition

The stunning East Riding of Yorkshire coast will once again welcome anglers from the UK and abroad as they take their place at the Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championship (EOBC) from Friday 3rd March – Sunday 5th March.

The three-day beach fishing competition stretches from the north end of North Marine Promenade, Bridlington to Pilot Jetty at Spurn Point.

The 29th year will see as always, an exceptional prize table, with great prizes and fantastic fishing equipment to be won! Competitors will be able to pick up valuable experiences, tactics, skills and techniques whilst enjoying a fun-filled weekend meeting new and old friends. Some of the top companies within the industry will be exhibiting to provide you with an insight into all aspects of sea angling.

Advance tickets are always in high demand, with anglers visiting from across Europe. Tickets will also be available between 4pm – 8pm on Thursday 2nd, 2pm – 8pm on Friday 3rd and 7–9am on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th March from the EOBC site office at Sand le Mere Holiday Village, Tunstall. Please note, online ticket sales close on Friday 24 February.

The popular warm-up ‘Flattie Bash’ event will take place on Friday 3rd March, kick-starting a full weekend of angling. This catch and release event will be held between Fraisthorpe, Bridlington (new location for 2023) and Hornsea with fishing times between 10.00 – 2.00pm. Tickets are £10 per person (cash only) with registration taking place on the day at Hornsea Floral Hall from 7am – 9.15am.

Fishing times for the main championship (men’s, ladies and juniors) are from 9am – 3pm on both the Saturday and Sunday of this exciting weekend, with the results and prizes been made available both evenings at the event HQ (Sand le Mere Holiday Village.) For those who don’t catch anything in size, there’ still a great opportunity to meet other anglers, exhibitors and the Sea Angling Adventures team (follow them on Youtube & Facebook Channel) at the event HQ. The first 500 anglers purchasing a weekend ticket will receive a free goody bag containing a range of sponsor freebies.

A shuttle service is available at a cost of £6 each way at Spurn Point on Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th March and is limited to 16 anglers – please contact [email protected] for further information.

Councillor Jane Evison, portfolio holder for economic development and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We are proud to welcome this prestigious angling competition back to our beautiful coastline. I am sure this championship will prove to be as popular as ever and a great success.    

“It is without doubt the largest three-day beach fishing championship event in Europe, so we’re excited to welcome competitors from countries such as Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands can enjoy our surroundings.   

“This event generates an estimated half a million pounds each time for local businesses and its invaluable to help keep our high streets thriving.”

Visit East Yorkshire Events operate a zero-tolerance policy towards littering at the event and request that all anglers are responsible for taking pride in our beaches and disposing of their own waste. Spot checks will be carried out throughout the event and anyone not adhering to our competition rules (available on www.eobc.co.uk ) will be disqualified. The event organisers decision will be final.

Competitors are advised that Ulrome, Aldbrough and Dimlington are now deemed highly unsafe. We DO NOT advise accessing these areas during the EOBC 2023. Competitors choosing to access these areas do so at their own risk.
